One Book Bradford, a community-wide reading adventure ,is now in its third year.
Our choice for the 2009-2010 season was Becky: the Life and Loves of Becky Thatcher by Lenore Hart.
The One Book Bradford Committee, chaired by Pat Shinaberger, planned a series of events related to some of the themes in Becky including a cruise on the Chautauqua Belle, a performance of Mark Twain, Live! with Mike Randall, and the production of "Never the Twain Shall Meet", an original short comedy featuring the Bradford Little Theatre.
Lenore Hart visited Bradford on March 31, 2010 accompnaied by her husband, author David Poyer. In the morning, Ms Hart and Mr. Poyer met with a group of aspiring writers for a seminar titled : Ten Things your English Teacher Never Told You About Writing."
At 7:30 that evening, Ms Hart read from several of her novels, and talked about writing Becky. More than 100 people were in the Mukaiyama Room at the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford to hear Ms. Hart's presentation, to meet the author, and to have her sign copies of her works.
The One Book Bradford Committee is already looking forward to next year's reading adventure. You are encouraged to make suggestions for the One Book Bradford 2010-2011 season. The Committee is interested in works (fiction or non-fiction) by contemporary authors whose writing appeals to a wide audience and who will be available to visit Bradford so readers and writers can meet face to face.
You may leave your suggestions at the Library or with any committee member. Thank you!
